Surprise Google PageRank Update Squashes Pinterest Boards

pinterest pagerank group boardsEveryone was surprised to see Google update their Toolbar PageRank values after 10 months of stagnation and even a message from Matt Cutts himself that an update prior to the New Year was unlikely.

When I found out about the update I immediately checked our own websites’ rank and our clients and then went to check on how our social profiles managed. Nothing too alarming, only my personal Pinterest profile (the pins page) lost value, Twitter increased, nothing too alarming.

The next thing on my mind were group boards on Pinterest. They’ve been abused heavily and rarely stay on topic once too many participants have been added. I’ve been invited to about 20 or so and have made a point to only accept invitations in instances where the content was on-topic, not spammy, and the board possessed PageRank.

Well, so much for that. Every single one of those group boards is unranked now or PageRank 0. Here are links to a handful:

Each was PR 2 or better, a couple of them PR 5 if my memory serves me right. Did you notice any changes in the PageRank of your own Pinterest boards, group boards or profile?

It seems the boards aren’t indexed (anymore) either. Can you confirm that?

The top three aren’t indexed, the bottom three are. And apologies for the delayed response time!
